Sister Act puts Seapoint just one match away from Irish Mail finals

SEAPOINT have become one of the first women’s teams through to the last eight of the Irish Mail All-Ireland Trophy thanks to a remarkable Sister Act.

The two sisters, Una Brennan and Fionnuala Jordan, achieved their latest success with a sudden death victory over Malone to put the club from Drogheda, Co.Louth just one match away from the finals at Macreddin Village.

Fionnuala Jordan said: ‘My sister and I have only been playing golf for six and a half years and we have never had a golf lesson in our lives, so you can imagine how thrilled we are. We are really delighted to be still in the running for the final.

‘Since Seapoint is quite young, just 14 years old compared with other clubs’ experience and reputation, we were thrilled to have done so well, particularly our first round win against our neighbouring club Baltray, which has spurred us on.’

Brennan and Jordan beat Malone’s Jane Gardner and Anne Chambers after a tight match which went to the 19th hole. During their run this year they have also beaten Howth and Ardee.

'All our matches have been quite tight, whatever the results, but we are having a great time and really enjoying playing in the competition,' added Jordan.

If they win their next match, Seapoint will qualify for the finals of the Irish Mail Trophy to be played at Paul McGinley’s Macreddin Village course on Setpember 6/7.
